Short Summary:

What works when commissioning socially engaged art.

There are a range of approaches to working with artists across the 21 Creative People and Places (CPP) organisations. Research was commissioned to understand the wider impact of the programme on artistic practice and the cultural sector and is also more widely relevant to anyone involved in commissioning artists to collaborate with communities. The report captures the perspectives of artists who have been commissioned to create new work  and of team members responsible for programming and working with artists and communities. Using CPP  practice as the starting point, it pulls out transferable learning about what works when commissioning socially engaged art – for artists, for commissioners and for communities.
